In 2006, our Flash Movie Contest proved to be one of our most engaging and most cutting-edge outreach initiatives. This innovative project helped us connect to a large group of teachers, professors, and young people about global issues. One goal of this yearly project is to rise above the din of information overload ? especially online - that daily bombards the ?net? generation. The contest encourages novel thinking through the creative forum of short web-based animation to depict global problems, but also show possible solutions.

Through this and other cutting-edge advocacy approaches, we?ve seen people get inspired to take action on global issues that they care about.

Citizens for Global Solutions hopes that our efforts to connect with and mobilize young people in fun and creative ways will also send a clear message to policy makers: the next generation of voters are tuned in to the world around them, and these young people realize the direct implications of global issues on their own lives.

The 2006 Results:

1st PLACE MAURICIO GARZA, ALEJANDRO LLOVERA, ROGERIO LÓPEZ RANGEL, TADEO REYES & JESUS KARLO Stop--Rewind--Play ?Our team agreed to make a Flash piece talking about the environment because we all believe the environment is so important to us."

2nd PLACE TOMILOLA ADEWALE Class Discussion "This was my first movie dealing with international issues. I once made a movie about a white boy who was really into stereotypes, who would eventually be made culturally aware due to a class on Native American culture and his black friend. However, due to my short attention span I have not yet finished that movie."

3rd PLACE AARON & ANDREW CAO Use It For Good "Aaron handles most of the technical work, like editing, challenging animations and a whole mess of digital specifics? all while trying to make sure Andrew doesn?t get carried away." "...just imagine two grown men in a tiny New York apartment on a beautiful Friday night, scuttling around with a microphone going 'Büte. Büte. Büte'! ?

Fabulous Fun Flash Facts for 2006:

• More than 9,000 participants (3 times the number from 2005).
  
  
• The ages of those who made it to the finals range from 14 to 32.
  
  
• Entries came from 14 countries and five continents, from North America to South America, Africa to Asia to Europe.
  
  
• Roughly 1/3 of the finalists either wrote or recorded their own music for their Flash videos (no one wrote or recorded their own music last year).
  
  
• Due to the hard work of our Partners, classrooms across the country -- and around the world -- got involved and submitted entries as part of school projects.
