ACTION: Help Us Ratify the Law of the Sea Treaty

Right now, we have the best chance in history of passing the The U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Its primary functions are to define maritime zones, protect the environment, preserve freedom of navigation and establish clear guidelines for businesses that depend on the sea for resources.

President Bush has finally announced his support for UNCLOS.  With his support, we have a real chance to get this important treaty passed.

Citizens for Global Solutions has been a long-standing advocate for UNCLOS and we have worked hard to help build a coalition of supporters to make this day possible.

Your support is needed now more than ever as we make a final push to see that this treaty is ratified this summer.

In Short, Why Should the U.S. Ratify This Treaty?

  • The Whole World Is Our Backyard. We can't afford to ignore problems beyond our borders anymore. Helping people keep peace and start to rebuild in war-torn regions makes us safer and is the right thing to do.

  • Safer Seas for a Safer Nation. UNCLOS will make our country safer. It also protects the armed services and their rights at sea.

  • Better Inside Than Outside. Joining UNCLOS will give us a seat at the table so we can voice our concerns with other nations. We can't sit on the sidelines anymore.

  • Senators Who Oppose LOS are Out of Touch. The President, the military, peace groups, environmental groups, and all major ocean industries support UNCLOS. The small minority who may end up voting against it in the Senate care more about undermining treaties than what's best for the U.S. and the world
