8 Things YOU Can Do For Darfur

1. Educate Yourself

  • Find more policy information about Darfur and other ways to take action:

International Crisis Group

ENOUGH

Genocide Intervention Network

Refugees International

Africa Action

Eric Reeves - Analysis and Advocacy

  • News from Darfur:

BBC

Reuters AlertNet

ReliefWeb

Sudan Tribune

Darfur Peace and Development Organization

  • Once you've learned about Darfur, talk to your friends, family and neighbors about what’s going on in Sudan and what they can do about it (keep reading…!).

2. Lobby Congress

  • Find out how your Member of Congress voted on Darfur legislation at DarfurScores.org.

  • Use Citizens for Global Solutions' recommendations on our Darfur Resource Center as talking points when you call or write your representative. Make your call or letter as personal as possible -- a personal, handwritten note goes a long way! -- and clearly state your concern and how you think the U.S. should engage the international community on Darfur.

Call the Capitol switchboard: (202) 224-3121

    Write your Senator:
    Office of Senator (Name)
    United States Senate
    Washington, D.C. 20510

    Write your Representative:
    Office of Representative (Name)
    United States House of Representatives
    Washington, D.C. 20515

3. Send a Message to President Bush

  • Tell President Bush that you want to see his rhetoric transformed into real action on Darfur. Ask him to take action to ensure the deployment of a hybrid AU-U.N. peacekeeping force and a renewed inclusive peace process.

  • Tell President Bush that you want his administration to actively support the Darfur case and investigation at the ICC, including the release of all relevant information to help indict war criminals.

  • Tell President Bush to specifically work with Chinese, Russian, and Arab leaders to press the Government of Sudan to end their support for and complicity in atrocities in Darfur.

  • Use our sample letter about the need for U.S. engagement with the ICC’s investigation in Darfur.

    Call: (202) 456-1111

    Write: The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
    Washington, DC 20500

    E-mail: comments@whitehouse.gov

4. Generate Press Coverage

  • Use a recent example of an op-ed from Citizens for Global Solutions action alerts on President Bush’s “Plan B” for Darfur.

  • Join the "Be A Witness" campaign to tell major television networks to include more news coverage on Darfur

5. Organize In Your Community; Plan or Find an Event

6. Support and Join the Sudan Divestment Movement

  • Visit Sudan Divestment Task Force to learn how you can help end profits for genocide by urging your city, state, or college/university to divest from Sudan.

  • Join the Fidelity Out of Sudan campaign to stop Fidelity from investing money in major oil companies operating in Sudan and funding the Sudanese government’s actions in Darfur.

7. Donate to Humanitarian Organizations

  • Humanitarian organizations and their staff are on the front lines of providing assistance and helping protect the people of Darfur. Help support their continued emergency relief and aid efforts to feed and shelter Darfurians and Chadians by making a donation to one of the listed organizations.

  • Raise money for civilian protection in Darfur by directly supporting the African Union Mission in Sudan.

8. Join a CGS Chapter Near You!

  • Join a Citizen for Global Solutions chapter in your community to continue communicating about the issues and to mobilize others to act for Darfur. Contact outreach[at]globalsolutions.org for more information.
